Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention & Event Centre
Customised QUATTRO Stage platforms and Wheelchair access Ramps
The Problem
The new retractable tiered seating system at the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention & Event Centre required wheelchair accessible viewing areas positioned at the front of the seating bank. The solution needed to integrate seamlessly with the retractable seating system while maintaining equal access and preserving the premium appearance of the venue.
The Constraints
This project involved several unique design and finishing challenges. The available space featured custom angled layouts and specific height requirements that required a completely tailored platform solution. In addition, custom carpet finishes were required to perfectly match both the retractable tiered seating system and the surrounding room flooring, ensuring a cohesive architectural finish throughout the space.
Why Select Concepts Was Chosen
Select Concepts was chosen due to our long-standing working relationship with Maxwood Technology, who supplied the retractable tiered seating system for the project. We regularly collaborate with Maxwood across a wide range of projects and are able to customise our locally manufactured staging systems to suit complex project requirements.
Being Australian made also allowed for close collaboration throughout the design and manufacturing process, ensuring the final solution met both the functional and aesthetic requirements of the venue.
The Solution
Select Concepts designed and manufactured a custom QUATTRO stage platform system complete with two wheelchair access ramps, custom handrails, integrated steps and custom carpet finishes. Every component was purpose-built to suit the angled layout, height transitions and finish requirements of the retractable seating system and venue interior.
The result was a highly functional accessibility solution that integrated seamlessly into the overall seating design.
The Result
The finished installation created a seamless extension to the large retractable seating system while providing equal access for patrons of all abilities to comfortably enjoy performances and events within the venue. The customised finishes and tailored design ensured the accessibility platforms complemented the architectural quality of the space without compromising functionality or appearance.
